The GB Women’s Team recently played two friendly matches against Coventry Wheelchair Basketball Academy (CWBA) on the road to the Paralympic Games in Rio in September. CWBA is part of YMCA Coventry & Warwickshire and encourages young players to play and learn skills alongside their brothers and sisters, Mums and Dads and even Grandparents all in Wheelchairs!
CWBA’s 1st Team played against the GB team and the stars of the future go to meet the players before the game.
CWBA, which is part of YMCA Coventry & Warwickshire, hosted the events which were sponsored by Midlands Company RGK Wheelchairs. Russel Simms of RGK said, “We proudly support the excellent work that is happening at CWBA, in nurturing young and extraordinary new talents in wheelchair basketball”.
CWBA Coach Paul Claridge , said “This is a fantastic opportunity for our young players to meet the players who they will be watching on TV when they are at the Paralympics in Rio! The players are truly inspirational and we are very happy to have these games here at CWBA”.
Quote from Miles Thompson GB Women’s Head Coach, “Coventry is a natural and friendly neighbour to the GB program. CWBA offer opportunities at all levels from juniors to adults and has the coaches and facilities to deliver. We naturally gravitate to the CWBA Programme and it allows us to have high level competitive games. We look forward to future mentoring opportunities for the CWBA juniors”.
The events were really well attended by friends and family of the Academy. You can see photos of the Events at https://www.facebook.com/cwba.info
