YMCA Coventry & Warwickshire is calling on local people to take part in the first local Tour De Y, a sponsored cycling event to help raise money for young, otherwise homeless people.
The family-friendly event, which will take place on Sunday 11th September from 12- 5p.m, at Draycote Water, invites people to sign up to cycle a 5 or 25 mile route. There is even a short 250 metre route for under 5s that can be completed on a bike, scooter or trike, so that the whole family can get involved.
Participants are asked to pay a registration fee of between £5 (for a child) and £25 (for a family of up to five people) and those who sign up are encouraged to raise money through sponsorship. The under 5s route is free of charge, though a minimum fundraising requirement of £3 applies. Everyone who participates will receive a medal.
Andy Winter , YMCA Coventry & Warwickshire Chief Executive, said, “YMCA Coventry & Warwickshire is committed to creating healthy, sustainable communities where people can lead active lives and fulfil their potential in body, mind and spirit.
“Our Tour de Y event is a great way of getting members of our community to raise money for young homeless people, whilst challenging themselves to tackle our 25 mile route or taking part in the family 5 mile ride.
“We urge everyone to get involved in this event, to raise money to help support our work in future.”
YMCA Coventry & Warwickshire provides accommodation for 73 otherwise homeless young people and supports many more through a range of sports programmes, training, and with opportunities to learn new skills at its social enterprises. Through this fundraiser, the charity is looking to raise awareness of the importance of an active lifestyle for everyone’s health and wellbeing and to raise funds to help to improve opportunities for local young people, including those who live at YMCA, in Coventry and Warwickshire.
