After two years of working in partnership and a process of careful deliberation and negotiation, YMCA Birmingham and YMCA Coventry & Warwickshire will be formally merging from 1st April 2020.
A new YMCA, called YMCA Heart of England, will be formed drawing on a combined experience of 300 years of supporting young people. YMCA Heart of England will continue to deliver local services to local people, using the familiar trading names YMCA Birmingham and YMCA Coventry & Warwickshire.
Our intention is to start expanding our service offer so that we can deliver more and better services to people, combining the skills and the assets of both organisations to help us to do this more quickly. Already a combined application to open an Alternative Provision Free School in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, has been submitted. An extension of a YMCA housing scheme in Coventry is also being planned, utilising the extensive development experience of YMCA Birmingham.
Making the merger announcement, YMCA Birmingham and YMCA Coventry & Warwickshire Chief Executive, Alan Fraser said:
“We are delighted to have agreed the merger of YMCA Birmingham and YMCA Coventry Warwickshire. We have already been sharing back office functions and executive leadership for two years and we have made significant efficiencies in our operations by doing so.
“The merger will enable us to continue to provide the existing local services we are known for. But, because of the synergies in our work, we aim to extend our full range of services across the whole Heart of England area in future. This will ensure that we can reach even more young people who need our support to help them to build a better life.”
YMCA Heart of England is part of a national YMCA Federation that is the largest and oldest youth charity in the world.
